Testing Principle
The May Grünwald acc. to Pappenheim stains consists of methylene blue eosinate and can bind to the nuclei turning them blue when viewed under a microscope and with basophilic cytoplasms that stain red-pink.
Used in combination with the Giemsa acc. to Pappenheim solution, a complex mix consisting of methylene blue salts and azure, that increase the intensity of the nuclear staining and the ability to selectively highlight the cell elements.
